There are quite a few “URL Shrinking” services out there on the internet, and most of them are the same old bland concept. Enter a URL, and out pops a randomly generated “Redirect” code. We frown upon such services, and applaud the ones who have dome something innovative with their tools. Here are a few of our personal favorites:
- Shrinkster - Shrinkster has a feature that is useful for people looking to track their URL’s usage by offering simple statistics about their small URL. After generating a small URL, the user can track the number of requests per day, as well as total requests the new URL is receiving. Handy for webmasters
- URLzy - URLzy is different from any other URL shrinking tool we have ever seen. Rather than visiting a website, and then typing in an address, they have found a way to simplify the process without installing a plugin. Simply enter your URL after www.urlzy.com/, and it will generate a tiny URL for you. Good for people on the go!
- Tiny URL - Tiny URL is likely to be the most popular tool of this genre on the internetz, but to be truthful, we don’t really see what makes it so great compared to some of the others reviewed here. They do offer a “URL Preview” feature to help users see where they are being redirected which is nice, as well as host some other cool tools for URL’s.
- Ox.ca - By far the smallest URL shrinking tool we have ran across! Ox.Ca is probably as small as they get, so if you are really looking for a small URL, this is the way to go.
- Shrunkin - Our very own tool offers something we like to call “URL Personalization”. You can tag your URL, and if your tag is available, it will be used instead of a random string of characters. This is good for if you have multiple URL’s you want to remember. Shrunkin also features a cool Firefox plugin to shrink URL’s on the fly!
Which tool do you use to shrink your URL’s?
